THE PARISH COUNCIL
The aim of Scriven Parish Council is to improve the quality of life for everyone throughout our area. The Council represents the electorate at grass roots level and works in partnership with other authorities, organisations and community groups to improve the area and to ensure that services are provided locally to benefit the whole parish and that the views of the residents are heard.
For some time, Parish Councils in England and Wales were thought of as the neglected part of local government. But things have changed dramatically over the last few years. Parish, Village and Town Councils have been empowered to develop their role in providing services and functions to their local communities. And rightly so, because they are the closest tier to the local community. With the introduction of the Localism Act 2011 the role of Parish councils has become even more important. The main aim of the Act was to devolve more decision making powers from central government back into the hands of individuals, communities and councils. The key measures of the Act are the following:
Parish Councillors are elected representatives and have a duty to represent the interests of the people living in their area. When decisions are made, they are there to put your views across and must ensure that they represent the whole community. If there is an issue you feel strongly about, let them know.
Any member of the public in the parish can raise any issue of concern with the Council as a whole or with any individual Councillor but please note that the Council's main contact is the Clerk. In addition, any suggestions that the Council might consider for ways of improving the area will also be welcome.
The Council meets approximately every two months in Park Grove Methodist Church Hall and all meetings take place, at 8pm (unless otherwise stated).
